I love reading Jodi Picoult, and I think we all enjoyed her book My Sister's Keeper. But I want to ask those who have read the book and also seen the movie how you feel about the differing endings. I rooted for Anna throughout the entire story, and I expected to cry at the end of the movie when she would die. But it absolutely blew my mind when that was not what happened.
I understand that movies should not be just like the book. I mean, if they were, what would be the point of making and watching the film if you're basically just reading the book all over again? But I feel like the director took a shit on Picoult's story and message by changing the ending. What do you guys think?
I think it was aweful. I just read the book and watched the movie and finished it all this weekend. I was so disapointed with the ending of the movie.
The movie to me seemed like it was rushed through and wasn't really told well, almost like a summery of the book. There were parts left out like so many movies do, but parts I wished were in it wasn't. For example, the whole thing with the service dog. I wished they focused a bit more on that because it did have an important part in the book. It said a lot about how you shouldn't fear what people think of you and this girl had to over come that same emotion to stand up for herself.
The ending of the book was kind of unexpected for me but is what made the whole thing great. The fact that anna dies in the end and not her sister Kate makes it more dramatic.
Anna lived for hersister and once her sister didn't need her anymore she dies and that is sad. But in the book, Kate died and that changed the intire meaning of the book.
i enjoyed my sister's keeper.
but i only watched the movie- so can't really compare them
very good though..
Oh well, if you liked the movie, then you'll love the book. Read it some time.
sad story. poor Anna. and yeah, I like the book ending than the movie.
I think I saw an episode of the show strong Medicine where the storyline was based on the book. I haven't read the book or seen the movie yet, but am planning on it.
I read the book and watched the movie. Jodi Piccoult is my favorite author of all time, although My Sisters Keeper is not my favorite book by her. It's still amazing though. Kate dying was the most upsetting thing to me. How predictable can you get? The cancer patient dies? Really? Does that not happen in ever single lifetime movie? Yeah, needless to say I was furious. Anna dying in the book is a stroke of pure genious. Nobody expecs it. It's fantastic literary madness. However, Piccoult had full approval on the movie, so obviously she accepted it to an extent.
